WaterTech Capital Corporation and its predecessors have been active in the water industry for over 25 years. Beginning as a strategic consulting firm, the company expanded into investment activities. After several successful funds that invested in public water companies (Water Partners:1 and Water Partners:2) WaterTech focused on private equity through the development and commercialization of water-related technologies. The decision to concentrate on private water companies was driven by the belief that the category was underserved; there was a disconnect between the rapidly dwindling number of public companies in the water industry and the mechanism for supplying new investment vehicles.

WaterTech Capital was founded by Stephen J. Hoffmann, a pioneer in the advancement of the economic value of water. Mr. Hoffmann, a resource economist and limnologist by training, is recognized for his expertise in the water industry. He was one of the earliest financiers to recognize the potential of water as an investment theme. In 1987 he published “Water: The Untapped Market “ for the Economic Research Institute, a think tank for free market processes. He has substantial consulting and operations experience in the areas of water and wastewater treatment, technology commercialization, strategic marketing, water rate design, regulatory compliance and water policy.

Mr. Hoffmann served as President and Senior Economist for Water Resource Management, Inc. and was the founder and managing general partner of Water Partners. He was the West Region Manager of Ernst & Young’s National Environmental Practice and was National Director of Corporate Finance for The Miller Group, where he headed the firm’s initiatives in water. Mr. Hoffmann served on the Board of Directors of Water Chef, Inc., a public company engaged in the manufacture of water dispensing and filtration products and water store franchising as well as Source Water International, Inc., a point-of-use water products manufacturing firm. He is a long time member of the American Water Works Association, the Water Quality Association and the Water Environment Federation where he often speaks on various topics within the industry. And he has been a contributing editor to the U.S. Water News, Water Investment Newsletter for over ten years.

It is with this heritage that WaterTech Capital is uniquely positioned to serve the merchant banking needs of companies that are engaged in, or contribute to, the water business.
